THE HEALING by Gita Aravamudan

I finished reading this book yesterday and it really fascinated me. It was very reminiscent of Barbara Taylor Bradford's 'Woman of Substance' and Chitra Divakaruni Banerjee's 'Sister of my heart' . I very much liked the two characters - Kitta and his daughter Jayanti besides Bharti herself. Of course, the mother Lakshmi is interesting too. Will write more about it later.

a large family is always so full of lives and stories. Coming from one such family, I could identify so much with the drama and intrigues, the characters and the growth of the female protagonists. From Lakshmi, who is all in the traditional mould, yet is bold enough to stand up and face any situation to Alamelu who can reduce Bharati to tears, Bharati's helplessness and the bounty of love in her life from Kitta and then Bharati's two daughters - Swapna and Jayanti - all seem people I have lived with.
