Remembering Mars and Venus..

We - my husband and I - make it a point to visit the Saibaba temple every Thursday. Naturally, flowers and coconut are offered and a half of the coconut comes back as 'prasad'. On occasions, I get coconuts for my cooking needs too from the same shop outside the temple. One such day, I just told my husband 'Please leave the coconut in the freezer' . When I came home, I found the broken coconut still lying in the puja. Thinking he had forgotten it as usual, I went to put it into the freezer when I saw the two whole coconuts sitting there ! Didnt say a word, thinking it was his absent - mindedness. When a similar incident happened again a few days later, I began to wonder and asked him why he had done so. Didnt he know that I put the broken one in to keep it from getting spoilt ? And the water in the whole one would freeze making it difficult to even break ? His reply once again reminded me of the Mars and Venus mentality - he thought that I would want to preserve the unbroken ones for later use and would use up the broken one soon !

Wisdom from the mobile

Quite often there is a message in the mobile from someone who wishes to keep in touch. Some of them are so meaningful so I thought I would just put them here. Some of them make me want to say so many things, narrate so many incidents. May be another day .....

Be careful in your thoughts when you are alone
Be careful in your words when you are in a crowd.

.................

Life is made of choices ... either remove your shoes or scrub the floor.

................

In life God does not give you people you want. Instead He gives you people you need. To teach you, to hurt you, to love you and make you exactly the way He wants you to be.

.......

The difference between school and life :
In school you are taught a lesson and then given a test
In life, you are given a test that teaches you a lesson.

............

The one takes your hand but touches your heart is a true friend

.......
We rarely think of what we have but always think of what we miss.

.....

Dont make an effort because the best things in your life happen when you least expect them to.

.......

Every one sees how you seem, but only some know who you are.

........

It takes 2 years for a child to learn to speak but a lifetime to learn what not to speak.

THE HEALING by Gita Aravamudan

I finished reading this book yesterday and it really fascinated me. It was very reminiscent of Barbara Taylor Bradford's 'Woman of Substance' and Chitra Divakaruni Banerjee's 'Sister of my heart' . I very much liked the two characters - Kitta and his daughter Jayanti besides Bharti herself. Of course, the mother Lakshmi is interesting too. Will write more about it later.

a large family is always so full of lives and stories. Coming from one such family, I could identify so much with the drama and intrigues, the characters and the growth of the female protagonists. From Lakshmi, who is all in the traditional mould, yet is bold enough to stand up and face any situation to Alamelu who can reduce Bharati to tears, Bharati's helplessness and the bounty of love in her life from Kitta and then Bharati's two daughters - Swapna and Jayanti - all seem people I have lived with.
